Giverny

On Wednesday we started the day with fresh croissants from the bakery, which were really yummy and crispy (I made such a mess), and of course the long awaited vegemite day. Unfortunately Benoit absolutely hated the amazing vegemite toast that I made. I put heaps of butter, so he was eating it fine until the sudden hint of vegemite came and you get that look of absolute disgust haha. Yves said he thought it was okay, but the guy eats half-rotten fruits as well! I love Yves!

Haha we then went to Giverny, which is Claude Monet's garden about 1.5 hours drive from Rouen with the whole family, except Claire. Giverny is so amazing, it was forecasted to rain but I forecasted that it wouldn't. Guess who was right? The weather was very fine. The tourists in this region were a lot of older retirement people. It was kind of annoying cos they were ruining our photos whenever we wanted some lol!

There was also the house of Claude Monet that we saw, which was pink and had some of the original furnishings! We couldn't take photos inside though, but I got some sneaky ones (some of them with my fingers in the photo, amateur rebel that I am), and quite a few of his original paintings were there too. Really beautiful, I'm a huge fan of his work. Love the Impressionists. Much better than contemporary art crap in the MCA in Sydney! We had lunch -baguettes - I can live on these all day, every day. Afterwards Yves took us on a more scenic, longer route back home. We saw my first every chateau/castle!! It was in ruins and it was called the Chateau Guillard. It was cold up on the hill, but we also got a beautiful glimpse of the city, and because of its hilltop location it was a very strategic location back in its day. Next stop was the Lookout Catherine, or something like that, which was a really nice birdseye view of Rouen.
